Congratulations to our 52nd Annual GRAMMY Award winners: Mamadou Diabate and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra! Kora master Mamadou Diabate won the award for Best Traditional World Music Album with his release Douga Mansa. Diabate was previously nominated for his 2005 debut, Behmanka, and his follow-up Heritage earned him the title of "World Music Artist of the Year" in 2007. The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra won for Best Large Jazz Ensemble with Book One. The ensemble was founded and is still led by the previously Grammy®-nominated and Billboard-Award-winning trumpet virtuoso Irvin Mayfield, who is also the officially appointed Cultural Ambassador for the City of New Orleans.

FERNANDO OTERO DAZZLES WITH NEW ALBUM VITAL Tango, Classical Piano & Jazz
This month features the fascinating Vital by Argentine pianist Fernando Otero. Introspective and provocative, Vital merges chamber music with new tango and jazz. Influenced largely by Igor Stravinsky and Béla Bartók, as well as Astor Piazzola, Brazil's Egberto Gismonti and Hugo Fattoruso of Uruguay, Otero was a musical polyglot by age 10. He performed on Paquito d'Rivera's GRAMMY®-winning CD, Funk Tango and composed the Kronos Quartet-commissioned "Cherry Tree", premiered at Carnegie Hall in February 2008.
