Oreka Tx

Harkaitz Mtnez. de San Vicente (San Sebastian - Donostia, 1975) and Igor Otxoa (San Sebastian - Donostia, 1973) have played the txalaparta as a pair since 1997, the year in which Oreka Tx was born. From there on, the sound of their txalaparta has been heard in many projects and bands, as many musicians who, surprised by the quality and versatility of these txalaparta masters, have wanted them to be incorporated into their shows. They have played or recorded with artists such as Kepa Junkera, Carlos Núñez Altan, Taraf de Haidouks, Alasdair Fraisier, María del Mar Bonet, Hendirgarna, Susan Seivane, Dulce Pontes, Pat Metheny, Berrogüeto, Phil Cunningham, Oskorri, Hevia and Gontzal Mendibil. They have also used festivals around Europe, America and Japan as a launchpad to gain awareness for the Txalaparta.

Oreka Tx's first album, Quercus Endorphina, was produced by Kepa Junkera and released by Elkarlanean in 2001. The group also participated in the original soundtrack of the movie Backwoods, by director Koldo Sierra, which premiered at the 2006 International Film Festival of San Sebastian. Tracks from the new album Nömadak Tx were featured in a Txalaparta show by the famous Spanish dancer and choreographer Nacho Duato, represented by the National Company of Dancing in the Teatro Real in Madrid. The show has also visited the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao and other parts of the world.
