Gabriela Torres
Gabriela Torres began her recording career in 1994 with the release of her first album of all original music, Sin cielo ni gloria (DBN). Then in 1995, Torres joined tango master Virgilio Espósito in the production of the show Dos tiempos. This experience inspired her to embark on her career as a tango singer. In 1996 she recorded her second album, Flores Profanas (DBN), this time with classic tango repertoire plus the inclusion of two original songs written by her father Hipólito Torres. The album received three ACE Music Award nominations. In 1997 Gabriela took a definitive turn in her career with the release of Círculos de Fuego (BMG), produced by Afo Verde and under the musical direction of Lito Vitale. The album featured new, original tangos, was toured extensively and a bonus track version of the CD was released in 1998. Torres’ fourth álbum, Vení (BMG, 2003) expanded her original repertoire to include milongas, rhythms from Río de la Plata and Bossa Nova. The album was a critical success, was toured around the world and was nominated for a Gardel award.
